La testimonianza è di Ossequente (1), tardo autore del IV-V secolo d.C. circa. In un passo, che presenta alcuni problemi di datazione, l’autore riporta la notizia di uno sprofondamento della terra in Lucania. Ossequente non indica esplicitamente se questo fenomeno sia stato causato da un terremoto. La Lucania comprendeva la provincia di Potenza, parte della provincia di Salerno (fino a Eboli e Paestum) e la Calabria settentrionale.
