State of earthquakes review
La testimonianza è di Ossequente (1), autore tardo (IV-V secolo d.C. circa) di un libro di prodigi, che attinge in buona parte a Livio (storico del I secolo a.C.) o comunque a una fonte autorevole. Ossequente ricorda una scossa con rumore simile a un "muggito", senza specificare il luogo del fenomeno. L’entità dell’evento rimane oscura: nella letteratura romana sui prodigi era possibile che un effetto minore, che destava impressione, trovasse per il suo grado di eccezionalità uno spazio nella memoria collettiva. Questo terremoto è noto alla tradizione dei cataloghi sismici a partire dal XVII secolo.

Secondo Ossequente tremò la terra con un rumore sotterraneo (1). La tradizione sismologica ha localizzato a Roma questo effetto.
